Steve Nix is the Director of Business Development for id Software. At id Software, Nix focuses on external partnerships, digital distribution and the marketing strategy for all of the company’s brands, including DOOM, RAGE, Wolfenstein and QUAKE.

As the former CEO of independent game developer, Ritual Entertainment, he defined the strategy and built the infrastructure to transition and grow the company to a multi-team, multi-platform studio. During Nix’s tenure, Ritual Entertainment released six titles, including Counter Strike Xbox and Star Trek Elite Force II. During that period, Ritual Entertainment contributed to the development of six additional titles, including 007 Agent Under Fire and Medal of Honor Pacific Assault.

Before entering the video game development industry, Nix was an associate portfolio manager at Smith Breeden Associates, the quantitatively driven asset management company. He managed portfolios for clients, including GM and IBM among others and participated on the research committee at one of the nation’s fastest-growing asset management companies.

Subsequently, Nix served as CFO for AnywhereYouGo.com, where he co-developed the business plan that transformed a consulting boutique into the leading global resource for wireless information and testing services before its acquisition by Hewlett Packard. As a key executive, Nix was involved in all aspects of management, including leading the company’s international expansion into London and Stockholm.

Nix graduated summa cum laude from Texas Tech University with a BBA in Finance in 1992, winning The Wall Street Journal Outstanding Student Award the same year. He continued his education earning an MBA from SMU where he was an Armentrout Scholar. Nix helped found The Guildhall at SMU, the premier video game development program in the U.S. and currently serves on its advisory board.
